No more boring Sundays!

This was my last full Sunday with nothing to do, next week there is a meeting at our NGO on Sunday, so Saturday is when I’m free but I’m betting I can find someone to hang out with me on a Saturday! I did not however sit at home, Damon Smiths brother Justin, set up a school here in ouaga and I asked him if he had any friends here and he gave me the email of Mr. Zongo (basically as common in Burkina as the last name Smith in the US…) I have been in email contact with Mr. Zongo my whole trip but we haven’t been able to connect until now. Mirabelle gave him directions yesterday to my house but he managed to get lost this morning and since I have no idea where I am it was kind of difficult to explain. Thankfully as I was standing outside when two young boys were trying to pick me up and were able to direct Mr. Zongo on my cell phone to my house, in exchange for my phone number….I explained that since I couldn’t speak French and they didn’t speak English why would we call….and they were only 15! I got away without giving my number.

Mr. Zongo finally made it and he was the definition of a prince. A lovely wide face with a laugh that made you laugh. My French was horrible but better than his English so I spent the whole day in French class. He drove me to his home where I met his wife, and three children. Alexander, Alexandra, and Nanoska (spelling…) There were 15 chickens, 2 roosters, and 3 ducks in his courtyard and about 8 children but only three of which were his. They fed me lunch and it was the first good Burkina food I had, it was rice with onions and dried fish, not my favorite but it tasted good. He gave me a tour of the school Justin helped build, but it was 105 degrees so we only took a quick tour. We went to his brothers house to meet him and then his aunt came over with her husband…so Africa……meeting the whole family, but it was amazingly fun. He was shocked to learn that I hadn’t been out at night and has promised that one night this week to drive me around, he was really wonderful!
