earrings

Fashion is very important here. Women dress according to “European fashion” but it wouldn’t be anything you see in Europe. One of my favorite accessories are the earrings. Women here wear “western earrings” as opposed to the traditional wood carving earrings. When looking at them I was initially confused because they looked like something I had seen before but I couldn’t figure out where I had seen it. Then yesterday it came to me. The earrings are shaped with three fake diamonds in a cluster on top then a C curve down to one diamond. The women usually wear the one diamond through their ear and then the curve goes behind their ear and curves to show the cluster of fake diamonds right before the ear lobe. Every woman wears them here and I’ve seen hundreds being sold and then I realized that these are NOT earrings. They are belly button rings, which explains the curve. You can’t say anything but these women have taking a style and re-created it on their own, not these women particularly but someone somewhere thought it was an earring. Another type of earring is a spear looking piece of plastic also with a fake diamond at the end and I think that this original design was also made for belly buttons but I’m not as sure as I am with the other one.

I have not bought a pair, but it’s a funny little antidote.
