I remember my first trip to Africa with uncle Jim we were in downtown Moshi, Tanzania and I begged him to stop at this place known for its hamburgers, and after having a massive deficiency in meat I was craving a big meaty burger. We stopped order two burgers with fries, and was highly disappointed in the result. The burger was crap, the ketchup was a knock off brand containing mostly water, it was an epic failure in my book, and hit none of my cravings. Since that experience I have not had a burger in Africa once, until yesterday. Mirabelle had church at night, she goes to way too much church for not really being religious, and so I wanted to grab something to eat at home for dinner. We stopped at a restaurant and the only thing they said they could make quickly was a burger, at this point I didn’t care and said fine, whip it up and lets go. We took it to go and when I got home I started to clean up and anticipated a terrible dinner. The one thing however that Africa does do well is french-fries. For them it is cheaper to and cut the fries from actual potatoes so they are actually very good, and I’ve eaten them a few times here already. But when I finally got around to the burger, I took a bite and you could see the meat was freshly made with onions and green peppers, it was spicy and tasted more like a meatloaf but it was exceptional, or maybe I was just that hungry. It was a kids burger though because in Africa you can eat anything you cant peel, so for example tomatoes and onions, so it was just a plain burger. I can eat tomatoes and onions if they are cooked just not raw.
I also bought my first container of pre-mixed tomato sauce. I put a little sauce on a baguette and it works as a dinner….sad I know, but its hard to cook for one as well as keep food good in this weather
