Easter

Last night was Easter, and so as a thank you to Fatou and her husband I wanted to take them out to dinner. Apparently this also includes another woman and the house girl. But anyways we drove downtown, my first time out at night in Burkina! We drove past the roundabout where all the demonstrations have been held, and past windows and streetlights still broken by the angry citizens. Since it was a holiday it was difficult to find a place, but we finally found some people who were outside eating, and drove up to join them. We sat down, and it was the first time I saw groups of white people, mostly French, all in one place as well. I ordered just a steak sandwich and the house girl and sarah got a mini pizza. The food wasn’t good but it was nice to sit outside and have the fresh air. After the meal was over, we heard loud screeching breaks and then saw that a man had hit a kid with his car. The boy was about 8 years old and was a beggar on the street and was now in tears. This fat 25 year old gets out look at the kid then parks his car and sits down at the restaurant and starts to eat dinner. I was fuming; I actually think fire was coming out of my ears. Unfortunately I don’t think he spoke any English and Eve didn’t want to make a scene, so after dinner I asked if I could give my leftovers to the kids. Eve said yes so I walked it over and let them eat the left over pizza. I felt bad that maybe the house girl wanted hers for later but I’m sure she will get over it. I also think the owner was pissed off that we fed the kids because he doesn’t want them hanging around the restaurant begging but I don’t give a shit. That man was such an asshole someone had to do something, and since I couldn’t tell at him this was second best.

My big heart has gotten me into trouble today too. I woke up ready for work this morning only to realize that Mirabelle wasn’t coming in. It’s a holiday. She however, did not tell me this and is very bad at communicating. Her lack of responsibility and taking so much time away from work is really hurting my project, so I have to have a serious conversation with her today at four. I was talking to fatou about how its difficult for me to do two interviews a day since Mirabelle has church at 6 and she almost blew her top. Apparently Mirablle should not be leaving before I say so, so I need to get a backbone and lay down some rules today. I’m paying her very well so I just need to tell her what I need. Bjorn says its good practice for me...but i dont like it
