Today was my last normal day at AEM, but it was anything but normal. Last night it POURRED rain, for hours on hours, it was so loud it kept me awake for a while. So this morning when we left the house everything was muddy and the motorbike picked up a lot of mud so I arrived covered head to toe with pieces of mud dried on my arms legs and chest. Then the NGO was equally if not worse, so walking around was almost impossible, I lost my shoe a few times. We brought ten baguettes that cost me less than four dollars to make the sandwiches. Fatou even came to listen and both of the midwives came to listen. Mainly I just thank everyone for being so supportive and letting me listen to what they had to say. People were actually very happy and said they wish they should have shared more. I also gave my two gifts of cloth to the head of the NGO and one woman who helped me translate a few times. I passed out the sandwiches as well as sodas and cookies. Around 22 women showed up which was nice. They joked with me asking me if they can come inside my backpack, or if they could find a husband for me. It was a lot of fun today. We took a few photos and then I said my goodbyes to some. I’m supposed to go tomorrow for another group meeting but there have been rumors that tanks are coming in the city so I actually ended my last day of work early to come home before they made their way into the city and now I’m hiding out at home once again. I hope it doesn’t get bad because I would like to leave on Sunday.
