Blogging.....I'm not very good at blogging, I know. I start these things and they are good for about two months or so and then they fizzle out and i write like once a week, if that. But i dont know a better way of at least giving everyone a once a week update.
However, the best part about this trip is that I'm only gone for two months which leave me no excuse to keep it going strong this time!
For those of you who don't know I'm headed to Burkina Faso on April 1st to the 5th of June to do field research with women and HIV. As you can see from the map, and for those who say "where the heck is Burkina Faso?" it is in the west side of Africa, land locked in the middle of Benin, Ivory coast, Ghana, Togo, Mali, and Niger.
It is one of the poorest countries in Africa, which is why it is a excellent place to study HIV and the availability to resources and information for women. I will be living in the capital Ouagadougou in a housing complex set up by my advisor in the country, Fatou Ouattara who is widely known for her research in Stigma and HIV. She also happens to be a very good friend of my advisor in Uppsala.
The official language in Burkina is French, which should help me prepare for my semester in Paris this fall but I guess its a little bit of a different dialect than in Paris.
Okay so i dont have much else to say about my trip other than im preparing by getting malaria medications and packing my bags. I have my visa and everything is falling into place.
In my real current life, im dealing with finals and studying and trying to move apartments. Well, Bjorn and I move apartments in June 6 days after i get back from Africa, so i've already started packing up the basement.
18 days and counting!
xx
